Hiking, Camping, and Exploring in Oman: A Personal Journey

As a female traveler in my 30s, I’ve been fortunate enough to explore Oman on multiple occasions, and I can confidently say that it is one of my favorite destinations for outdoor adventures. Waking up to the sound of waves crashing on the shore or the quiet stillness of the desert is an unforgettable experience. One of the most memorable camping experiences I’ve had in Oman was in the Wahiba Sands desert. We set up camp under a blanket of stars, and in the morning, we were greeted by the sight of camels wandering through the dunes.

One of my favorite activities is exploring the wadis, which are dry riverbeds that are transformed into natural pools during the rainy season. I’ve also gone on a road trip from Dubai, where I lived for 7 years, and explored Hatta and Musandam. Hatta is a beautiful mountain town that offers a variety of activities, such as kayaking, mountain biking, and visiting the famous Hatta Dam. Musandam, on the other hand, is a stunning peninsula that is known for its fjords, which are unique geological formations that offer a breathtaking backdrop for activities such as kayaking and dhow cruises. I even had the opportunity to see dolphins and go snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of the Arabian Gulf.

But what truly makes Oman special is its people. Every time I visit Oman, I’m struck by the kindness and hospitality of the locals. They’re always willing to share their culture, food, and traditions with visitors. One of my favorite memories of Oman is attending a traditional Omani wedding. It was an incredible experience that allowed me to immerse myself in the local culture and connect with the people.

One of my favorite Omani dishes is shuwa, which is a slow-cooked lamb that is marinated in spices and wrapped in banana leaves. It’s incredibly flavorful and tender, and it pairs perfectly with rice and fresh vegetables.
